The Turks and Caicos Islands provided a unique and inspiring shallow sand covered bank called the “Caicos Bank”. With the unmatched opportunity to catch and release teams of bonefish, "Bonefishing", from the expansive hard bottom flats to the complex mangrove channels, you will believe are in the remote and productive areas of the world’s shallow banks for flats fishing. Located approximately 160 miles north of the Dominican Republic and extends from the Southeast of the Bahamian archipelago, the Turks and Caicos Islands is frequented by the north American visitors seeking an adventure. Whether by boat or kayak, once you are set on fish, you will stalk after the gray ghost of the sand flats. The schools of bonefish range in size from small schools containing bonefish 8lbs and larger or schools comprised of several hundreds of bonefish ranging 3-7 lbs. Visitors have even been able to catch and release fish that are double-digits swimming in small groups or solo. The bonefish are known to stream away 200 yards of line on the first run and take more than an hour to land. As the winds and tides change, you will find yourself surrounded by miles of solitude on the silver shallow banks.
What to expect on a typical day with Silver Shallows Charters: Load in the 18 ft Carolina skiff with a bimini top, or kayaks at the edge of the Caicos Bank flats. Your guide, Gman, will scan the flat for the silver ghosts. Once the fish are spotted, you will stop and begin to wade or kayak to prime casting locations. As you stalk your silver ghost, Gman can help you spot individuals and groups, provide tips for casting, striping for setting your hook, reeling, and of course releasing your fish; or you can test your skills within the guide with flyfishing lessons. Whether it is a full day trip (8 hours) or half day (4 hours), the opportunity to wade or kayak is throughout the trips provides individuals a full-time experience. We fish groups of up to 4 anglers (email us for exceptions) so you’ll always have space in the boat and miles isolated flats to stalk your prey on the Caicos Bank.
Captain Gman is a born Turks and Caicos Islander of South Caicos. From a young age, Gman was raised on the Caicos Bank involved in the fisheries industry. His father included him and his brothers in the fishery by walking the flats capturing bonefish and boxfish for food security. As he grew up, he became a commercial fisherman, free-diving for spiny lobster and queen conch and using a Hawaiian sling for reef fish. With more than 30 years experience on these waters, Gman has honed his ability to fly fish and seek out the silver ghost in the recreational fishery, better known as “fly fishing for bonefish”.
He adapted his abilities and became one of the best fly-fishing guides in the Turks and Caicos Islands and the BEST in South Caicos. As a Captain he provides a positive and encouraging attitude, creating an enjoyable environment full of experiences. Many visitors have acknowledged is amazing casting abilities or more than 12 meters (40 feet) into the wind; along with his keen sight of spotting the bonefish on the bank. Whether you are an experienced fly-fisher or new to the sport, Gman will provide you the best opportunity spot, hook, and reel in silver ghosts.
Visitors that have encouraged their children to try the experience have been overjoyed to watch as they hook and release their own fish. Gman takes pride in watching the young experience their fish catch and will even assist to children in the capture of the silver ghosts.
